Enjoy listening to the Job Carr mannequin!
Enjoy listening to the Job Carr mannequin -- To the delight of many children and adults alike, our life-size, talking Job Carr mannequin greets and entertains visitors. He talks about his experiences, his life here, and his dream for Tacoma.

Enjoy great performers!
Our program for elementary tours can include a brilliant re-enactment of life on the Oregon Trail. Actor Ray Egan becomes Ezra Meeker and engages the students for 45 minutes, all the while drawing them into his stories of the region. The multi-talented Debbie Birkey can entertain the students with songs of the era, singing and playing the dulcimer and guitar. Both entertainers are appropriately interactive with the children.

Coming this school year will be a storyteller, who will spin a yarn by the fire to take the children back to life in the pioneer days.
Enjoy stepping back in time!
No tour would be complete without a look around the cabin followed by a question and answer period. Viewing the artifacts always stimulates discussion that involves a bit of history about Job Carr, his cabin and early Tacoma. We offer an ever-increasing variety of educational games (indoor and outdoor) that delight the children and often challenge the adults.

Enjoy a cozy setting for learning!
We encourage second through fifth grade teachers and their students to visit the birthplace of Tacoma when you are studying pioneers, local history, Washington State history, and/or the Oregon Trail. There is no admission fee, although donations are gratefully accepted and are tax deductible. Advance registration is required. Please allow approximately 40 minutes for one classroom visit to the cabin, longer if you are combining classes and if you are taking advantage of our optional programs. If your time is limited, we will accommodate you by eliminating the elective program of your choice. The program is flexible and we work together with you to accommodate your needs. Call or e-mail today to arrange a tour.
