Wonderful events sponsored by the Job Carr Cabin Museum
Each year the Job Carr Cabin museum board, staff and volunteers work hard to
provide exciting events that promote and preserve the history of Old Town and
Tacoma. In addition to our ever expanding education programs, we host the Annual
Tree Lighting at the Cabin, the Annual Old Town Walking Tour, and the
Annual Eureka Auction. New exhibits open quarterly to educate and entertain
persons of all ages who visit the cabin. Come join us!

Area families are invited to the Job Carr Cabin
Museum for the Old Town Business and Professional
Association annual Christmas Tree Lighting in Old
Town Park, Thursday afternoon, and Dec. 3, 2009.
Festivities will begin at 4pm with caroling and
refreshments. After Santa arrives and lights the
tree, he will be available in the cabin for free photos
with the children. Santa will be available while photo
supplies last or until 6pm. All activities are free of
charge. The event is sponsored by the Old Town
Business and Professional Association and the
Job Carr Cabin Museum.

The Job Carr Cabin Museum has a brick sales drive
underway to support the operations of the museum
and the new exterior exhibit coming this fall. Should
you decide to purchase a brick, the names of those
you honor will be permanently displayed in the plaza
as a reminder of your support of the Job Carr Cabin
Museum and Old Town Tacoma. A plaza brick is
$100 for three lines, with up to 17 characters per
line. Bricks are inscribed two times per year.
You will be notified by mail when your brick is
complete. Stones in the Founder’s Circle begin at
$1,000.00. The museum has set a goal of selling 50
bricks this year. Consider making your name, or the
name of someone you love, a permanent greeting to
the thousands of visitors who come to the museum
each year! To order a brick, please call the museum
at 253-627-5405, or send an email to the museum
director at mdeck@jobcarrmuseum.org.

Winter 2009
Watch this space for the announcement of the
celebration for the new exterior exhibit opening in
the plaza of The Job Carr Cabin Museum this fall.
An outdoor display of Job Carr’s canoe—the Red
White and Blue—will be the star of the new exhibit.
Work on the interior lighting and exterior exhibit
expansion project began this spring. Museum
supporters provided initial funding in May 2008;
the museum was fortunate to receive grants from
The Ben B. Cheney Foundation, The Sequoia
Foundation, and the Marco J. Heidner Fund of
Union Bank of California of The Greater Tacoma
Community Foundation in support of the project.
Construction will continue through late September
2009, when the new exterior interpretive area will
be celebrated with a ribbon cutting and special
event in the Old Town Park. When complete, the
exhibit will feature historical information and
interpretive activities that will be available at all
times for visitors to Old Town.
