We're looking for your faithful service!
The Job Carr Cabin Museum and Visitor Center is looking for people who have a
passion for the town of Tacoma, or who want to be actively involved in our
community. Those who seek to learn and tell the story of how and why Tacoma
came to be are encouraged to contact us. We invite you to participate in the Job
Carr Cabin Museum. Become a Docent, a Committee Volunteer and a Member. There
are also other ways to help support Old Town's cabin: Perhaps you have a gift
for writing and would like to contribute local, historical articles to our quarterly newsletter.
Perhaps you have a talent that would lend itself nicely to our educational tours.
Perhaps you're an educator and would like to help with the exciting changes going
on with our education program. Perhaps you have knowledge of antiques from the
late 1800's and would like to help the Artifacts Committee. |

Volunteers from all age groups greet our visitors during hours the Museum is
open to the public. These docents share their knowledge of-and enthusiasm
for-regional history; most specifically the origin and early development of
Tacoma. All facts, anecdotes, and the captivating, consciously-conceived
emergence of Tacoma - the quintessential story of community development -
are provided to the corps of volunteers by Museum staff. Individual and group
training is arranged. A video is on the premises to augment information imparted
to visitors.

Museum staff work in tandem with docents and, typically, docents are motivated
to read and research further information on their own as their enjoyment of
articulating the background of Job Carr, his role and that of his family in creating
Tacoma, and the City's subsequent growth. Docents may assist in
special projects during their designated hours.

Most docents devote one afternoon a month, three to four hours, to being
on the premises. Others schedule themselves for one day a week. Some offer
themselves as substitutes, personal calendars permitting, or may only work a
particular season. Docents are not required to be on premises during the
month of January, as the museum is closed to the public.

It's fun!
