    Job Title: Executive Director

    Position Status: Part time/20-25 hours per week, 12 months (flexible scheduling), includes some weekends and evenings.

    Compensation: Salary range: $30 to $33.00 per hour. Hybrid workplace. One-week paid vacation after six months of employment, five paid holidays, sick leave. No medical or retirement package is available.

    Job Carr Cabin Museum is a locally-founded learning history museum in the Old Town neighborhood of Tacoma. With the passion, expertise, creativity, and integrity of three part-time staff, JCCM is the recipient of many awards, recognized by peer organizations, and is loved by its community. JCCM’s expertise in child and youth enrichment expands through collaborative, creative partnerships. Its reach extends to all ages throughout Pierce County.

    JOB DESCRIPTION

    The Executive Director is responsible for general administration of the Museum, including an emphasis on fund development, grants, and stewardship, under the direction of the Board of Directors. The Director represents the Museum in the community, manages the annual budget, and is responsible for any curation of museum exhibits. In addition, the Director supervises and reviews the Program Manager and Volunteer and Visitor Services Coordinator.

    Main duties include: 1) strategic leadership for JCCM and staff; 2) represent and promote the Museum widely in the community; and 3) develop and implement approved fund development plans to support the Museum’s mission and programs and meet budgeted goals.

    Other responsibilities include:
    • Foster collaborative relationships to further the mission of the Cabin.
    • Develop donor cultivation and stewardship plans, outreach and cultivation of corporate
    • and foundation relations/sponsorships, and fundraising appeals.
    • Identify grant opportunities and work to develop and administer grants to support the operations of the Museum
    • Work in partnership with the Board and staff toward the Museum’s strategic plan and longstanding sustainability of the Cabin.
    • Attend meetings of the Board of Directors, including committee meetings as needed.
    • Includes preparing documents and reports for review.
    • Manage Museum annual budget, processes invoices, payroll, and performs bookkeeping functions.
    • Maintain Museum general computer systems and databases (currently PastPerfect).
    • Responsible for the creation of marketing and promotional materials including newsletters, website, social media, press releases, and more
    • Assists with Board member recruitment and cultivation.
    • Oversee building security, visitor safety and facilities.
    • Other duties as required.
    Required Qualifications:
    • Three years management level experience in relevant museum, youth enrichment, and/or non-profit work.
    • Successful grant writing and fundraising experience.
    • Strong communication and writing skills, including public speaking and the power of storytelling.
    • Passion for the value of history and sharing it.
    • Experience in strategic planning and plan management.
    • Experience in fundraising, stewardship, Board relationships and budgeting.
    • Strong interpersonal skills.
    • Commitment to creating and promoting a diverse and inclusive environment.
    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Understanding of cultural heritage in non-traditional learning settings, particularly as it relates to school-aged audiences.
    • Knowledge of Pacific Northwest history and the subject matter dealt with by the museum.
    • Understanding of curatorial and conservation matters.
    • Experience with computer software, website updates and maintenance, database programs and email tools for communication and marketing (ideally QuickBooks online, Adobe, MailChimp, and Past Perfect).

    University or College Credit Available

    Educational credit may be available for students.

    Project-based internships are generally 5-15 hours per week. Days and hours are flexible. Internship dates are flexible, depending on your class schedule and availability.

    Share your passion for history with local students!

    Provide dynamic field trip presentations, offering children an educational experience about the Oregon Trail, the Transcontinental Railroad, and/or life in 19th century Tacoma.

     

    Engage students in historical interpretation using artifacts, storytelling, music, and/or dramatic performance to help school groups imagine daily life in the past.
